STAFF-Infection: Resistance Is Futile
at 10:11 AMToday I caught a severe case of the Staff Infection. For the viewers at home this not a physical ailment as you might think, it's much, much worse. The Staff Infection is where most officers hope to never go. It's like the Borg from Star-Trek. It draws you in and you cannot help but be assimilated by meetings, Power Points and an amount of email traffic that would make Gmail sick. This is now my fate for hopefully not too long but then again, I'm about to become one of them, one of the staff.
Some would argue that it is one of the greatest places to work within the Army. I say it's where some people go to their dreams and goals crushed by the repetitive tone of the the printer and click of the of the stapler .
I think my biggest gripe with the Staff is it's an office job. I haven't seen any Army Strong commercials lately since they've got in Iraq, not really on the priority list to keep me too brainwashed, they got me this far. But in any case most of those videos you see tanks, soldiers taking the hill, jumping out of planes, etc. What you don't see is the paper pushers that make up a great deal of the Army and how they contribute to the "fight". But trust me I will with every push of the key, click of the mouse and slam of the stapler I'll be defending freedom to the fullest. And without further delay my new theme song:
Spread My Stapler and Fly Away
Also be sure to check out S4 at War. He blogs from Iraq on the joys of staff too. Same staff section too.
