We got into Kuwait about 215am and my internal clock is way confused. Not to mention the temperature. It was 90 at 2am. I was actually kind of surprised it was even that hot. From there they moved us to a holding area where we stood around. Some smoked, played cards, waited for the sun to come roaring over the horizon and without any warning at 5am it was bright daylight. The funny thing, well at least to me was the incremental temperature raise. It actually felt as if some one was trying to cook you slowly and steadily.
From the staging area we moved to our next station Camp Buehring. It was a 2 hour bus ride and I could actually feel the heat through the shade on my window. We quickly got out had some briefings and were turned loose. The walk to the Dining Facility (DFAC for short) was interesting. It was the hottest part of the day and I'll I could imagine was some one crawling along the desert floor in search of an oasis. But let me tell you the DFAC is NOT an oasis of any kind. Well maybe from the heat but not much else.
From there it was another desert trek to my cot. I can't remember much other than getting to my cot falling asleep and waking up at around 430 in the afternoon. Went to a quick formation to make sure nothing was missing ( weapons, night vision googles, etc.) Got the okay and another walk to the DFAC.
This time minus the scorching heat and let me tell you whoever says "Oh well at least its a dry heat", do me the favor and punch them in the throat. There's nothing okay with heat so hot that it makes sweat drip down the portion of your body with a crack. After eating Lord knows what, I and one of my Non-Commissioned Officers began a 2 hour search for the internet. Eventually it ended with us being right back where we started from, the DFAC. I know understand why you can get so easily lost in the desert, BECAUSE 20 DIFFERENT PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU 20 DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET TO THE SAME PLACE.
